TRAINING:

Each artisitter is required to obtain Sitters Studio’s Arts and Development Certification (ADC). Our intention is to give our childcare providers more concrete knowledge on why the arts matter and how to use their skills as an artist to grow, change, and inspire each child they meet. The ADC training program focuses on four specific areas of development: motor skills, language skills, social-emotional skills, and cognitive skills. Each of which is broken down by eight age groups. However, a major theme we try to convey is that every child is an individual and may not fall neatly into categories! Development is greatly influenced by many factors in a child’s environment and through their experiences, not just by their age. The ADC’s goal is to give our childcare providers the necessary tools to help them bring the best influences to your family!
The Arts and Development Certification process teaches:
Dance and coordinated body movement help to develop gross motor skills.
Learning to use scissors, how to draw, and working with a paintbrush all aid in the development of the fine motor skills.
Designing and creating a play encourage basic and advanced problem solving skills in a variety of contexts.
When a child cannot portray their feelings in words they can use: drawing, dancing, plays, etc. to help express themselves and increase self-esteem.
