Dr. Mark Norell, curator and chair of the American Museum of Natural History’s Paleontology Division, has curated a thrilling new exhibit, Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs that’s on display now! Because Pterosaur bones are so light, few fossils remain, making prehistoric flight an exciting, mysterious field. For kids who are aspiring paleontologists, this will be an exciting look at how fossils form and what their evidence can tell us. This is bound to inspire some great art projects, too! Try drawing your favorite flightless animal as a flying animal: will it have to be lighter? Longer? smaller? The possibilities are endless!
With Spring Break on the horizon, we’re all ready to put away our winter coats and get out of town! Call us crazy, but packing becomes a little more challenging when you’re traveling with kids. It’s very easy to grab your baby’s blankie and forget your phone charger, and we’ve all done it…some of us more than once! Minitime, a fabulous resource for traveling with kids, put together some great packing lists that will help make sure your trip goes swimmingly! Click here (http://www.minitime.com/trip-tips/packing-lists) for more information.
These are a great jumping off point, but we definitely encourage you to make your own! If your kids are old enough, having a checklist can make packing fun for them. Ask them to consider what they’ll need on a trip versus what can stay home. It’ll be good to leave video games behind for a few days!
We’ve been obsessing about the Archist City collection of artist Federico Babina here at the Sitters Studio office. He has been exploring what the world might look like if Dalí, Warhol, Lichtenstein and other famous artists had designed buildings. You can explore his collection at http://federicobabina.com/ARCHIST. Even if you won’t be living in the Gerhard Richter building, these may inspire you and your kids to think about how an artist’s style could be translated into any number of things. How would your son or daughter draw a horse like Picasso, or a car like Matisse? The possibilities are endless!
Believe it or not, Ludwig von Beethoven “himself” will be appearing in concert this Sunday, March 16th, to help a young pianist play his music as he meant for it to be played! Courtesy of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, this concert is geared specifically toward helping little ones fall in love with music. Be sure to arrive by 1:00pm to enjoy the Musical Instrument Petting Zoo in the Alice Tully Hall lobby! Kids will have a chance to interact with instruments of all kinds, and a lifelong love of making music could start with a single note!

This month, JJ Ramberg of “Your Business” on MSNBC chose to feature Sitters Studio as an example of Company Culture! We had a wonderful time with the film crew, and we got a great behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to create a news segment. Everyone in the office was interviewed, and Ms. Ramberg’s questions reminded us of how much we enjoy working together. We spent two days filming, both in the office and “on location,” to create enough material for five exciting minutes! This clip has everything; laughter, storytime, rock and roll, a ukulele and even an operatic aria! Can you spot them all? Click here to watch us in action.
