The Umbrellas of Portugal

This enchanting street is located in Águeda, Portugal.  The umbrella installation is the work of artist Ivo Tavares.  Not only does this installation create a delightful visual experience, but it also serves to protect the people on the street from the hot summer sun.  The photographer, Patrícia Almeida, has beautifully captured it in this and other photos.  To see more, check out the link below:

Why We &#9829 Art: Reasons 136 & 137

136: Art can take an ordinary object and escalate it to inspirational.  137: Art speaks to children and to our inner child.  Here are two experiential projects that exemplify both, using a universal favorite – balloons!

Martin Creed invited Chicagoans last fall to immerse themselves in rooms filled with balloons:

Christo and Jeanne-Claude built a monumental balloon that can be entered and experience from the inside:

Art Appreciation: Father-Daughter Portrait Project

We adore this father-daughter photography project by a family from Australia.  Dad is a self-taught photographer and is sharing his appreciation for art with his daughter.  They’ve created an entire collection of portraits like this one, replicating or inspired by great masters like Vermeer and Velasquez.

To see more portraits in this series and learn about what went into this amazing collection, check out his website and blog:
