Last night, several members of the Sitters Studio Staff and Artisitter Caregiver Team went to see the Tony Award-winning revival of Pippin! After awards season, it was a very hot ticket, so we were happy to get the balcony seats we had.
The show was absolutely incredible! While the show is rightfully associated with the choreography of Bob Fosse, this production is staged as if it were being performed by a modern Cirque-style troupe of performers under a big top. Every performer had, or learned(!), a variety of circus specialties, from juggling and trapeze work to contortion and death-defying balancing acts! Each of these specialties was tied directly to the story in a way that kept all of us, and the rest of the audience, on the edge of our seats from beginning to end! We’re already talking about going back!
We hope to see you at the 10th annual Mamapalooza festival this Sunday. Not only is it a great chance to meet our office staff and some of our amazing team of artisitter® caregivers, but we’ll have a fun craft for the kids too! The event also includes live music and entertainment from a variety of performers, great food, and the opportunity to learn about other family-focused companies in the city. The event runs from 11:00am-5:00pm, the entrance to the park is at West 68th Street, and admission is free.

Hurray! Sitters Studio is 7 years old today. Thanks to all of you for choosing us for your childcare needs. And thanks to all of our wonderful artisitter® caregivers, past and present. We couldn’t have reached this milestone without you!
“I was so elated when I got a call from the Goldman Sachs 10K Small Business program, inviting me to the New York Stock Exchange to represent women entrepreneurs for International Women’s Day. Traditionally I am not the type to do anything except maybe the gym at 7:30AM, but for this Read more…
You may know Robby as that charming guy that answers our phones, but he’s also a talented lyricist. Here he tells about an exciting collaboration he’s working on with one of our fantastic Artisitter® caregivers and trained actor, Nick:
Kerry McGuire, our admin/bookkeeper has worked for Sitters Studio since last July, but her workday includes more than just us. After leaving Sitters Studio headquarters she heads over to the Upright Citizens Brigade, where she writes for a house sketch team and teaches sketch writing.
Guiding the workings of our office by day, designing lighting plans by night, our Director of Operations tells us what satisfies his artistic itch:
“Everyone needs lighting. As a Lighting Designer, I work on projects ranging from theater and dance performances to architecture and events. One of my regular projects is the Consumer Electronics Show, held each January in Las Vegas. I’m part of a team responsible for putting all the lights, sound, video, and staging up the day before, rehearsing the show, running the show without a hitch (we only get one shot at it) and taking it all down again. For these kind of shows my job is about the art of time management.
Besides admin work at Sitters Studio, our Office Manager Jaimie works as a freelance Stage Manager for Off-Off Broadway productions. Her latest venture? Touring Kosova (Albanian spelling), Macedonia, and Albania with a bilingual play about gender and cultural issues in modern Kosova. Here, Jaimie tells us about the experience….
If you’ve met any of our artisitter® caregivers, you already know how dedicated they are to their artforms. But we’ve also got quite a few working artists in our office as well! Jaimie spends any time she’s not with us working as a stage manager, Jason also does lighting design for dance and theater productions, Robby moonlights as a lyricist-librettist, and Kerry is pursuing a career as a sketch-comedy writer. Every Tuesday during the month of February we’ll feature a recent project from each of these artistic staffers. Check in to find out how Jaimie enjoyed her theater company’s tour of Kosova and learn about Robby’s latest children’s musical project with one of our favorite artisitter® caregivers, Nick.
One of the ways we support our artisitter® caregivers in their professional, artistic pursuits is providing them with free studio space at our office. We love to support all the art forms, though this benefit is most frequently used for theater and music rehearsals. So we were delighted when one of our artisitter® caregivers requested the space for another art form – she wanted to use it for a fashion shoot! The sitter brought in her entire team, complete with models, a professional photographer, and a rack of garments. Each time one of our office staffers would pass by, they’d come back excitedly saying, “Do you know? Do you know what’s going on out there? It’s a FASHION SHOOT.” We are so happy to have been a part of this project!
